2015 Red Mountain Mourvedre
This Mourvedre from Heart of the Hill vineyard on Red Mountain is balanced with Grenache from Alder Ridge vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills. Big fruit notes from the Mourvedre meet the lighter-bodied earthiness of the Grenache head on and combine into much more than the sum of their parts. The warmer vintage in 2015 pushed the flavor profile closer to Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
Production notes
The wine was made by gently crushing and de-stemming the clusters directly into bins without the use of a must pump. Approximately IO% of the grapes were fermented as whole clusters. Fermentation was completed using commercial yeasts and then the wine was pressed into 3-5 year old French 225L barrels and a new French oak 500L puncheon where ML took place. The wine was aged for approximately 2O months before bottling. No fining took place and the wine was filtered through a coarse pad to remove the lees.
